Jonathan Signs New Criminal Justice Bill Into Law

According to ThisDay, President Goodluck Jonathan has signed the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill 2015 into law. The bill was passed by the Senate on May 5. The bill seeks, among others things, to address the problem of delayed criminal trials. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, confirmed in an interview with journalists that the president had signed the bill into law. According to Abati, Jonathan signed the document last Wednesday, the same day he received the bill from the National Assembly. “The president has signed the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill 2015. He signed it the same day he received it from the National Assembly. With that development, the bill is now an Act,” he said. (online)
