Biu Market Explosion, Diversionary, Says FG

Thursday’s bomb attack on Biu Main Market has been described as a desperate bid by the insurgents to divert the attention of the military from the ongoing war against them.
The Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, made this assertion in a statement sent to our correspondent on Friday.
He said the insurgents had been rattled by the successes recorded by the military in conjunction with the multi-national troops presently engaging them at the fringes of the country.
Wakil, while commiserating with the people and Emir of Biu over the suicide bombing that claimed several lives in the town on Thursday, said, “The bomb blast is reprehensible and an attempt by the insurgents to open a new front of attacks following ongoing counter-insurgency operations by the national and multi-national forces.”
The minister advised the military not to allow the insurgents divert their attention from the ongoing efforts to rid the region of terrorists.
Wakil sympathised with the victims of Thursday’s attack as well as victims of other attacks in other parts of the state, praying that God would grant the nation victory over the insurgents.
While expressing confidence that the military and its allies were on the way to victory, the minister urged Borno people to rally round the troops.
