Jonathan Begins Workers’ Housing Scheme Tomorrow






President Goodluck Jonathan will on Wednesday in Abuja, inaugurate 10,000 housing units for Nigerians under the Workers’ Housing Scheme. The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, who said this on Monday, explained that the housing scheme being done in collaboration with the Nigerian Labour Congress, and the Trade Union Congress, would be developed by Good Homes Development Company Limited. Mohammed said, “The FCT Administration has provided land for the scheme and the developer would build various types of houses including 5-bedroom duplex; 4-bedroom duplex; 3-bedroom terrace duplex; 3-bedroom block of flats and 2-bedroom block of flats.” The minister, who said this in company of the supervising Minister of Labour and Productivity, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, and the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi, noted that the project was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing affordable housing to Nigerian workers under the Transformation Agenda of the present administration. They stated that the FCT administration, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, and Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development had been mandated to fashion out how the inauguration at Apo Tafyi District, after the Apo Mechanic Village would be done. The ministers said the scheme was designed for all the 36 states of the federation and the FCT to reduce the housing deficit in the country and most importantly provide affordable homes to Nigerian workers.
